Intro Lessons

Abbey Rider Training was Swindon’s first school to offer a FREE introduction lesson, and still the only one to actively encourage you to take advantage of it.

When will your journey begin?

Why do we offer intro lessons? More...

We love motorbikes, and we want you to love them too. We want to give you the chance to learn the basics without the constraints of a fixed course structure.

Riding bikes should be fun.

When it comes to CBT we would rather be teaching you additional skills rather than the bare basics. You will have more time on the bike doing what you actually want to do. Our customers who have completed the intro find it easier to reach a good standard compared to starting the CBT with no prior experience, and having the basics in place will make the CBT far more enjoyable.

We believe in it so much we offer it for free, and will actively encourage you to take us up on the offer.

We want you to get through first time, so you don’t have to pay twice. More...

The chances of getting to a good standard in a day, with no prior experience, are slim at best. What most schools won’t tell you is that if you struggle, you will probably be sent home to avoid disrupting the pace of the course for other customers, and you will most likely be charged to come back and do exactly the same again. We don’t want to do that. Let us help you get it right first time.

We want you be be safer and more skilled than is possible in a “1 day” course. More...

When the goverment wrote the syllabus for the CBT course, it was never intended to be a 1 day course. Everyone learns at a diferent pace, so expecting a novice to be safe after a day is just not fair. We do aim to complete it in one day by giving you a head start but obviously, can never guarantee it.

What will we teach you? More...

  • Pulling away & stopping
  • Gear changing
  • Slow control
  • Cornering

Our 90 minute introduction lesson allows you to learn how to ride without the pressure of trying to get through a CBT unprepared.

Our promise is this… More...

After your intro lesson, if we feel you are ready to go onto CBT, we will not charge you for further CBT training if you should need it – as long as you have done your part.

We ask you to have a work through our CBT study guide which will tell you everything you need to do and know to allow us to give you the best service possible.

The intro lessons is a chance for you to check us out before you commit to further training… More...

Regardless of the course you are looking for, we want to give you the right advice based on your actual ability and not just a conversation over the phone. Everyone is different and just like car lessons, the amount of training needed will vary. After seeing how you get on, we will be in a better position to give you honest and more accurate advice. We will never give you an artificially low price to trick you.

We offer great value and quality training. Come and check us out before you decide.

The not-so-small print:

If you book this lesson as part of any course, the lesson is free of charge.

We do ask for a deposit when booking the intro, this is to secure the booking, the deposit will be deducted from the CBT course price. If you decide not to book a CBT, the deposit pays for the intro, and you can walk away with no obligation to book more training.

Bike hire, helmet, jacket and gloves are all provided free of charge. We ask you to wear thick jeans and sturdy boots as a minimum. Motorcycle clothing is best, but we understand that it’s a big commitment if you are just trying it out.
